Island of Elba - Tuscan Archipelago
During the summer season car ferries leave from Piombino to Portoferraio - the main town on the Island of Elba - almost every hour. There are also daily ferries from Cavo and Rio Marina. The shipping companies are Toremar, Moby Lines, Corsica Ferries and Blu Navy. The crossing from Piombino to Portoferraio takes one hour (30 minutes by Corsica Ferries), the crossing from Piombino to Cavo takes 35 minutes, and to Rio Marina it takes 45 minutes. A hydrofoil service (no cars), which arrives only in Portoferraio and Cavo, takes 35 minutes.

  • By car:
    From the North of Italy: from Milano take the A1 motorway, change to the A15 at Parma Ovest to join the A12 Genova-Livorno exit later at Rosignano. Continue on dual-carriageway as far as right-hand sign to " Venturina/Isola d'Elba". Continue on the main road until you reach Piombino Marittima/Portoferraio.

    From the North-East: Take the A1 motorway Bologna-Firenze-Pisa-Livorno exit later at Rosignano and continue as above.
    Alternatively: take the S.G.C. (not a motorway but a very good road) Firenze-Pisa-Livorno, exit at Firenze Scandicci and follow the main road as far as Collesalvetti. At Collesalvetti re-join the motorway and at Rosignano dual carriageway as above down to Piombino.

    From the South: Take the A12 Roma-Grosseto, continue on the main road "the Aurelia": exit at Venturina-Isola d'Elba then follow as above for Piombino.

  • By plane:
    During the summer Elba is connected by many flights by italian and foreign companies from the following airports: Milano, Pisa, Zürich, Bern, Genève, Friedrichschafen, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, München, Berlin, Wien. The airport is located in La Pila, approx. 3 km from our residence.

  • By train:
    The train station of Piombino Marittima is 50 meters far to the ferries departures. See www.trenitalia.it
